Miraku Ramen

By Reporter Kelly Egan

Ramen from the island of Rishiri in Hokkaido, Japan, has never been brought to the tastebuds of Americans. Until September 20, when Miraku Boston had its grand opening in Brookline.

The restaurant originated in Rishiri, and did pop-ups in the Boston area before deciding to open up a location in the city. The positive reception from their pop ups is what led manager Ken Yee and chef Takamasa-san to invest in opening a U.S.A location.

“It's so diverse here, and I think it'd be a great home for it,” Yee said. “So we found this place, and we renovated it.”

In Japan, Miraku is known as the most difficult restaurant to access because it requires a small plane to get to the island. Yee and Takamasa-san wanted to make it easier for more people around the world to taste the ramen.

“For [Takamasa-san] to bring it here is easier for the Japanese community, or anyone around the United States to get to this place than it is to get to the place in Japan,” Yee said.

Miraku Boston is located at 9 Babcock Street in Brookline, MA. Their hours currently are 5-9 p.m. on weekdays, and additional hours on the weekends from 11:30-3 on Saturdays and 12-3 on Sundays.
