WERS News is one of the premier college news departments in the country. As part of the number one college radio station in the country (Princeton Review), the department wins a host of AP Awards each year for everything ranging from investigative reporting to public affairs reporting. In 2011, the department pulled in 6 Awards and in 2010 we won 7 others.

The WERS News staff includes about 25 members including on-air anchors, producers, reporters, and web writers. The department broadcasts newscasts twice daily from 6 am–9 am and 3 pm–7 pm, bringing Boston the latest headlines along with weather and traffic updates every half hour.

The news department also spearheads the station’s award-winning public affairs show, You Are Here, a weekly hour-long broadcast combining the best of journalism and storytelling. Each week we choose a different topic of global and local importance and bring you five different stories on that theme.

WERS News has also conducted live coverage of the 2008, 2010, and 2012 elections, with reporters stationed at results parties across the state. In 2012 the department also led live, emergency coverage of Hurricane Sandy for more than 12 hours on air.
