February 04, 2009
Mighty Mystic is a straight up authentic reggae artist coming from the countryside of Jamaica. Born as Kevin Mark Holness in St. Elizabeth, 1980, he took an early liking to reggae. Following a move to Boston in the late 1980s, Mighty Mystic began to pursue his dream of making his own reggae. He spent the years honing his craft in Boston before teaming up with reggae stars Tanto Merto and Devonte to release his first single, “Been so Long." A second single, “Black People Anthem," hit #2 on the Jamaican radio charts.Following this success, Mighty Mystic released two singles on Split2nd Entertainment in 2005, one of which was “Riding on the Clouds." This single would go on to receive heavy radio play. In addition to this, Mighty Mystic is currently putting some finishing touches on his debut album, Wake up the World.
Mighty Mystic came into the WERS studio during Black History Month to say a few words about Jamaican hero and reggae pillar Bob Marley. “As far back as I can remember, Bob Marley has been a pinnacle … a great influence from day one.” He said that Marley is an artist whose influence “spans all over the world.”
