WERS 88.9 fm - Artist Interview: Easy Star All Stars
May 15th, 2009
As the controlled chaos of the WERS Live Mix staff operated, the members of Easy Star All Stars waited on the interior window ledge outside of the WERS studios, not as impressed with the view of the Boston Common across the street as they were a Dunkin’ Donuts on the corner. Their newest album Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band (reggae covers of Beatles songs) dropped a month ago and spent three weeks at #1 on the Billboard Reggae charts.
A reggae cover band from New York, the current members of Easy Star All Star’s have become a seasoned road act, but the love of their music is what shines the brightest. In the packed studio, they began with their songs “She’s Leaving Home” and “Lovely Rita.” The familiarity of the tunes was evident, with a serious side of reggae that gave the music and lyrics a whole new life. Between songs, they spoke of their sold out shows and playing festivals in Europe and Japan, and how they have just returned to the states from a European Tour. Before they left WERS and head to the Middle East for a sold out concert, they play “When I’m 64” to finish things off. Easy Star All Star’s are a group that love what they do and the music they create. They are an energetic yet laid back group who “love the studio, but love the stage more.”
