WERS 88.9 fm - Album Review: Whitney Houston - I Look To You
March 23rd, 2010
In case you didn't know it, Whitney Houston is back with a new and refreshing sound that is sure to entertain and keep the naysayers at bay. Though Whitney has gone through a number of trials, her recent album I Look to You is an inspiring reflection of where she has been and where she is going as an artist and as an individual. Teaming up with producers like Johnta Austin and David Foster, Whitney has found a way to combine her distinctive vocal sound with the essence of contemporary R&B.
This musical amalgamation is particularly evident in "Like I Never Left," a collaborative effort featuring artist and producer Akon. This track intertwines Whitney's striking voice with the cool and laid back vibes of modern R&B. Better yet, Whitney has given us a blast from the past with a cover of Donny Hathaway's "A Song For You." This record not only gives the listener a quintessential glimpse of sound from the original singer but transforms into a dynamic dance track for music lovers across the spectrum.
I could go on and on about this new album but I honestly believe that the truth lies only in the eyes of the beholder and this musical experience must happen individually. Whitney Houston has reinvented herself and her music to suit her loyal fans as well as any new supporters that have emerged over time.
