WERS 88.9 fm - Album Review: Westbound Train - Come And Get It
September 14th, 2009
Westbound Train is at it again with their fourth studio album, Come And Get It. Third time's a charm, but the fourth, is a hit. This third genre ration Ska group hit home with their story telling artistry on this album. They say they take their roots from Sam Cooke, The Four tops, Toots & The Maytals and so on, but the style in which they issue their warnings on "Check Your Time," has a convincing tonality of Kenny Rogers 's "Coward Of The County," and dare I say, "Come And Get It" sounds like The Who singing to a reggae beat.
Though the album takes a multidirectional arrangement, you aren't concerned about its high and low tempo. First you're jamming to its smooth sounds, like it was the rebirth of UB40. You find yourself bopping from side to side, but then there is the rock aspect, which leaves you feeling hip and modern. Now this all sounds confused, but trust there is no other Ska band out there that can cater to multiple generations on one album.
There is no doubt this guys know what they're doing down to the smallest aspect of the appropriate instrument to use. Yes, they do play real instruments, not the trashy recreated beats out there. What are you waiting for? They just told you …. Come and get it!
