WERS 88.9 fm - Album Review: Bebe and CeCe Winanas - Still
December 12th, 2009
This is the time for big returns; Whitney's back and so is the dynamic duo that that is Bebe and CeCe Winans. Coming from the legendary Winans music lineage starting with their Grammy nominated parents "Mom" and "Pop" Winans; siblings Bebe and CeCe Winans are proving to still be strong with their new album Still. Together the pair earned 5 Grammy Awards, 2 NAACP Image Awards and 8 Dove Awards among others in the 90's and with their new album, they've seemed to strike gold once more.
Still peaked at number two on the Billboard R 'n' B and Hip Hop albums chart, and number one on the Independent album chart. The upbeat title track manages to seamlessly allow the listener to retain the nostalgia of the 90s without losing the joy of a new a song. Other tunes, like "Grace," slow the album down and allow you to savor the sound. Listeners may be surprised to hear the stamp of the modern auto-tuned sound on this album but this does not detract from the organic quality of their voices. An album favorite is the song, "Close to You," which dominated the Billboard Charts and shows a perfect merge of the rhythm of the 90's with modern soul.
One of the best comeback albums of all time;Still will not disappoint. Everyone is glad to see this brother and sister together in the studio and performing together once more. Hopefully there will be more to come.
