The Walkmen’s Singer Releasing Solo Album

Walkmen 3Hamilton Leithauser, frontman of The Walkmen who broke my heart with their indefinite hiatus, announced last year that he was working on a debut solo album. It was reported that the album was due for release this spring and would featured collaborations with other members of the band. The album, titled Black Hours has officially been announced and is set to be released on May 6th in North America via label Ribbon Music.

The track “Alexandra” has been released and was co-written and produced by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij. The song is bright and lively, features fours show girls in their dressing room and a very dapper Leithauser in their midst. It is slightly reminiscent of some favorite Walkmen songs (“Love is Luck” or even “Heaven”) but has a distinctly different feel with playful keys and a vibrant harmonica.

Other artists who worked on Black Hours with Leithauser include The Shins’ Richard Swift, Morgan Henderson of Fleet Foxes/The Cave Singers and Paul Maroon of The Walkmen. No official tour dates are announced as of yet but Leithauser will play four shows over two nights at Joe’s Pub in NYC on April 15th and 16th, with tickets going on sale February 27th. Black Hours can be pre-ordered now on CD, LP, and limited deluxe double LP from Ribbon Music’s online store or digitally from iTunes. A new album can’t really fill the void his former band’s hiatus caused, but I suppose it will have to do.
