After 2013’s “Get Lucky,” “Blurred Lines,” and “Happy,” Pharrell Williams is just about ready to bust into the new year with the release of his first full solo album in eight years. The record, G I R L, is stacked sky-high with guest features, including performance by Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, and living legend Hans Zimmer.
“Happy,” the album’s upbeat single, has topped charts in more than fifteen countries, including the United States, Australia, France, Germany, and the UK. It premiered alongside 24hoursofhappy.com, the single’s ‘music video’ of sorts, which hosted a video of various people singing and dancing to the song. Steve Carell, Magic Johnson, Odd Future and many more celebrities made swinging appearances in the 24-hour video along with regular fans. The celebration was later condensed to the original four-minute run-time of “Happy” and posted on Youtube as the official music video.
Williams stated that he wants the album to feel “festive and urgent.” I cannot foresee it anything but that, especially after viewing the artist’s multiple hat-clad appearances alongside Zimmer’s stringed drama in G I R L’s trailer. The album will be available for purchase on March 3rd, and is currently streaming on iTunes Radio.
