New Music Tuesday: December 2nd

Glen HansardHalt, before you inset your standby Christmas playlist into the ol’ CD player– don’t believe what the top 50 lists are telling you, 2013 isn’t finished! Here’s the rundown of new music for the week.

Black Flag, What The…

After thirty years off, the groundbreaking group and Henry Rollins machine Black Flag is back with their first studio album in decades, charged with the same angry energy that first made them famous. Though the original lineup is now a distant memory and founding member Greg Ginn returned on guitar, the music holds up and What The… is well worth a listen.

Glen Hansard, Drive All Night EP

The folk singer who became famous for his role in Once and the legendary soundtrack has fostered a successful solo career, and the Drive All Night EP is his beautiful acoustic sound at its height. Smooth as honey and an even sweeter, softer Hansard sound than you remember, the Irish singer’s latest release is a perfect rainy-day option.

Muse, Live At Rome Olympic Stadium

It’s basically a best-of Muse album that reminds you how much better they are than so many of their chart-topping peers in concert! Recorded earlier this year at the Rome Olympic Stadium, the Brits bring the energy and you can practically hear the pyrotechnics through the speakers as they blast through favorites like “Madness”, “Uprising”, and more.

All right, back to “Winter Wonderland”…but don’t say we didn’t warn you!
