On the Verge: San Cisco

At 4:15 PM each Tuesday, WERS brings you our On The Verge segment which highlights an artist we think is up-and-coming.

This week’s artist On The Verge is four piece indie-pop band San Cisco! Contrary to what you may think, San Cisco is not from San Francisco, but from Australia. As the band says, they went with San Cisco “because it was nothing; like a blank canvas which we were able to sculpt into whatever we want.” The band certainly does so with songs like “Awkward” and “Fred Astaire.”

The band has ties that go back to high school, and. Jordi Davidson (lead vocals & guitar) and Scarlett Stevens (drums) have even been friends since childhood. Sa Cisco put our their debut, Golden Revolver EP, in 2010, and their most recent release, 2012’s Awkward EP, has gained them a lot of attention. The video for the title track now has almost 5.5 million views on YouTube, which it certainly deserves. The band made another big move in 2012 when they became the first Australian band to sign to label Fat Possum, which is also home to The Black Keys, Dinosaur Jr., and Andrew Bird.

Keep your eyes and ears open for San Cisco, and make sure to tune in to 88.9 WERS today at 4:15 PM to catch the band’s performance in the studio!
