Axl Rose, the lead singer of the band Guns N’ Roses, dated Erin Everly in the 1980s before marrying her in April of 1990. Their marriage was tumultuous to say the least, and quite ephemeral, only lasting a couple months. The couple had the marriage annulled in January 1991 (which is still better than Kim Kardashian or Britney Spears). Everly was the inspiration for Guns N’ Roses’ song “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” which remains as one of the most popular GNR songs.
They say time heals all wounds, and I guess after about 20 years Everly’s have finally done just that. On December 6th and 7th there is an Icons and Idols 2013: Rock N’ Roll auction through Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California. Everly will be using this auction to rid her life of any evidence that she was ever with Axl.
She is selling mementos of their time together including letters that he wrote her, clothing from his music videos, handwritten song lyrics, childhood photos of Rose, and even their marriage certificate.
Most of the letters tell of their turbulent nuptials, but not all are nasty. Among the more loving is one letter that reads, “No love was there more true Erin. I love you. Goodbye sweet child- Love Always, -Axl-.”
The letters are only expected to be sold at $600 to $800. However, $1,000 to $2,000 is expected for the flannel shirt that Rose wore in the “Welcome to the Jungle” music video. Most surprisingly, the couple’s marriage certificate and wedding video (yes, she’s even selling the wedding video) are expected to bring in the most money, at around $2,000 to $3,000.
I can’t help but wonder how Axl feels about this. If I were him, I would want at least my flannel back. I won’t be surprised if there is some backlash about this from him soon. I also can’t help but wonder who would buy a marriage certificate? Even as a super fan, why is that appealing? Especially for up to 3,000! Who am I to judge, I guess. But, if you’re an Axl super fan and are in the Beverly Hills area on December 6th and 7th, go help the effort for Everly to wipe Axl from her life. Can you say “Angry Child O’ Mine?” Or maybe just desperate for money, that could be it too. In that case, I feel ya girl.
