The National Release Song For Catching Fire Soundtrack

The National

With the premier of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire less than two weeks away, indie rockers The National have become one of the first artists to release their song for the movie’s soundtrack. Titled “Lean,” the track effectively captures the dark, melancholic sound and obscure, pensive lyrics The National are known for. With lyrics such as “Dying is easy / I believe my love and my love relieves me,” the song is sure to get the minds of listeners imagining what the film will entail.

“Lean” is the fourth of fifteen songs on the soundtrack. The National join the likes of artists such as Of Monsters and Men, Imagine Dragons, Phantogram, The Lumineers, and Lorde in the album’s lineup. Lead vocalist Matt Berninger told NME in an interview that the song was originally titled “Dying Is Easy,” but the filmmakers made them change the name because it was “too dark.” He joked that “The song almost didn’t make it because it was too dark for The Hunger Games soundtrack, which I thought was sort of funny because it’s about killing kids; I don’t know how a song can be darker than that?”

You can hear the soundtrack in its entirety on its release date of November 19th – two days before the movie premiers. If you’re as impatient as I am, be sure to listen to “Lean” here and check out the full track listing below.
