New Releases Tuesday : October 29

Los CampesinosIs it Halloween or Christmas? This Tuesday has been jam-packed with fabulous releases, including one of the biggest drops of the year, so let’s dive right in.

Arcade Fire, Reflektor

This one’s a no-brainer: Arcade Fire only releases an album, historically, every three years, so any release is one to be thrilled about. Reflektor takes a different thematic direction than past hits The Suburbs, Funeral, and Neon Bible, drawing on everything from Haitian culture to Dutch philosophy to films of the 1950′s to create a sweeping album that addresses isolation in the modern age. Oh, and producer and featured credits from James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and David Bowie doesn’t hurt. The critics have spoken– Reflektor is something new from the group but feels familiar in the layers of sound of Win Butler’s distinct vocals.

Los Campesinos!, No Blues

Few bands formed in college can claim to the success Los Campesinos! has since graduating in 2006, and are celebrating the release of their fourth album No Blues. With killer new single “Avacado, Baby”, the music video to boot, and the complimentary download through Soundcloud promotion, the indie mavens keep their sound high-spirited and more mature in the new album. Appealing to a broader audience than before, No Blues is poised to become Los Campesinos!’s landmark album– their sound boiled down to its purest, most enjoyable form.

Asgeir, In The Silence

Asgeir is an Icelandic artist who is barely allowed to drink in the United States, but has already established himself as one of the most successful Icelandic musicians in history (eclipsing fellow Icelanders Of Monsters and Men), and is releasing the English-language version of his smash debut Icelandic debut in late 2012. Asgeir, then operating under full name Asgeir Trausti, visited Boston for WERS’s Reykjavik Calling back in the spring, and has since become a household name in Iceland, with one in every ten households owing  a copy of the album.
