Pearl Jam Prepare to Debut 10th Album

Pearl JamLightning Bolt, the most recent Pearl Jam album, is set for release this Tuesday and fans aren’t the only eager ones.

The band made the album available for listening online a full week before their October 15 release date and unveiled their music video for “Sirens” last month. Pearl Jam kicked off their tour this past Friday in Pittsburgh, playing an array of tracks from the new album. They graced the stage for two and a half hours with an opening set of 20 songs and not one, but two encores. Jason Grilli, pitcher of the Pittsburgh Pirates, even made a special appearance when he rocked the air guitar on stage during “Whipping.” The tour will run for a total of 25 dates.

In a short documentary about the album, Pearl Jam cited the title of Lightning Bolt and the overall stormy theme as a tribute to their hometown of Seattle, which is notorious for such weather. This will be the tenth album they’ve released since their formation in 1990, with their previous album Backspacer having been released in 2009. Be sure to pick up the new album on Tuesday and catch Pearl Jam live when they play at the DCU Center in Worcester this week.
