What do you get when you take The Shins’ lead singer, James Mercer, and pair it with mastermind Brian Burton, more commonly known as Danger Mouse? Broken Bells! This Grammy-nominated alternative duo is finally coming out with their second full length album this January. Titled After the Disco, Broken Bells has only released one full length album back in 2010 followed by a short EP titled Meyrin Fields a year after, so no wonder fans are itching to hear some new material from the unique collaboration.
The new album news was recently released on their website followed by a one minute teaser set in a desert location. The lack of details has fans and spectators itching for more information and theorizing ideas, but ultimately little is revealed except for Mercer’s distinct falsetto and Burton’s disco-inspired beats, as suggested by the album title.
We can’t be fully disappointed however. The Shins and Danger Mouse have been busy releasing new material from their separate parties, with Mercer releasing the absolutely beautiful Port of Morrow, if I do say so myself, and Burton busy with Norah Jones’ Little Broken Hearts, Portugal. The Man’s Evil Friends and The Black Key’s El Camino.
According to these standards, both musicians have set the bar extremely high for their brand new releases, but by the looks of it, fans most likely won’t be disappointed.
