Pixies Announce 2014 Tour

The PixiesPixies has been revived. The alternative-rock legends are set to embark on a 33-city tour from mid-January to March with support from Best Coast, Cults, and Fidlar. The previously announced 2013-14 world tour (which launch last weekend) takes them across Europe through November.

The band released a four-track called EP-1 on September 3rd, following bassist Kim Deal’s departure earlier this year. “Everyone was just devastated,” said the Pixies’ manager Richard Jones to Rolling Stone. “But everybody believed in the songs. We decided to just carry on and see what happens.” The current lineup comprises singer-guitarist Black Francis, singer-bassist Kim Shattuck, guitarist-singer Joey Santiago, and drummer-singer David Lovering. The born-again Pixies can still be formidable, as they demonstrated on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last month.

“For what’s missing, I’ll sacrifice my flesh,” Francis sings in the Pixies’ wistful, restrained “Andro Queen,” whose recent music video is directed by Ondi Timoner. In fact, the band sacrifices its own faces to wear animal masks in the video, which is interspersed with sun-gleaming road footage and the revitalized energy of live-performances. Check out Andro Queen’s journey here — and here’s the full list of tour dates!
