On the Verge: Vikesh Kapoor

At 4:15 PM each Tuesday, WERS brings you our On the Verge segment which highlights an artist we think is up-and-coming.

This week’s artist On The Verge is singer-songwriter Vikesh Kapoor. Kapoor comes to the studio in support of his upcoming debut album, The Ballad of Willy Robbins. As the title suggests, it is a concept album following the character of Willy Robbins. This follows his 7″ release of “Newspress Scare” back in 2010.

Though he spends most of his time in Portland, Oregon, the album has roots in Boston. Vikesh was inspired to start writing the album after performing at the memorial service for historian Howard Zinn in Boston. Kapoor shares Zinn’s battle against social injustice. The album is to be released on October 15th. For a group of lucky fans, though, Kapoor is holding an album release show in Portland on the 13th.

The first single off of The Ballad of Willy Robbins is called “I Dreamt Blues,” the video for which was released recently. The video is a live performance of Kapoor playing the song at the Portland Playhouse. On his website, Kapoor notes that “It was chosen as a first glimpse into [the album] because it casts the widest light on what this album is about.”
