Concert Watch: September 11-14

City and ColourHello concertgoers! As the school year begins going full swing, Boston’s local concert scene continues to go full steam ahead. That’s why we have yet another exciting week of shows coming up:

Wednesday, September 11th – Michael Franti and Spearhead w/ Kopecky Family Band @ House of Blues

Tonight the House of Blues is featuring a double header of WERS artists. Michael Franti has been making music with his backing band Spearhead for nearly 20 years, while Kopecky Family Band only just released their self-titled debut earlier this year. But no matter how long either of these acts have been around they both put on energetic and exciting live shows that rival those of the hippest young artists around.

Wednesday, September 11th – Volcano Choir featuring Justin Vernon of Bon Iver @ Paradise Rock Club

Before Bon Iver and his collaborations with Kanye West, Justin Vernon had Volcano Choir. Having begun as a collaboration between Vernon and members of Collections of Colonies of Bees two years before Bon Iver’s first album, Volcano Choir comes to the Paradise Rock Club with the same artistic brilliance that led Vernon to prominence in his more well-known outings.

Saturday, September 14th – City and Colour @ Orpheum Theatre

City and Colour is the moniker of Juno Award winner Dallas Green. You might have seen him at last year’s Newport Folk Festival, but he’s coming back this weekend to play at the Orpheum Theatre. With his latest album, The Hurry and The Harm, Green said he, “just wanted to make an honest record.” So it’s likely that City and Colour will also put together an organic live show to boot.
