New Release Tuesday: Sept.10

arctic monkeys AMWelcome to New Releases Tuesday on WERS. Every Tuesday we take a look around the music scene and bring you updates on, you guessed it, the new albums coming out this week.

Arctic Monkeys: AM

Today celebrates the U.S. release of the fifth highly anticipated Arctic Monkeys album AM, putting a spin on lead singer Alex Turner’s love of the Velvet Underground’s VU. Unlike their last effort Suck It And See, AM returns the Monkeys to the studio sound, giving a little more polish and production value to a promising release.

Man Man: Oni Oni Pond

This is the fifth studio album from the Philadelphia-based band. It comes two years after the release of the band’s 2011 critically acclaimed album, “Life Fantastic”. Man Man’s style is experimentally focused and draws its vibes from a number of unconventional sources. The band has been known to borrow sounds from traditional instruments like the trumpet and saxophone, but also from non-traditional avenues as well, including pots and pans, smashing plates and even spoons.

The 2013 LP was produced by Mike Morgis, who also produced Bright Eyes and First Aid Kid, and released on ANTI records. The lyric video for the album’s first single “Head On” was released earlier this summer.

Lissie: Back to Forever

The highly anticipated sophomore release from the Illinois-native comes three years after the released of her debut LP, “Catching a Tiger”. This record was certified gold in the UK and in Norway and was released on Columbia Records. In 2011, VH1 named her as a “You Oughta Know” artist.

This 2013 album was produced by Garrett “Jackknife” Lee who has produced well-known artists like REM, Snow Patrol and Silversun Pickups. One of the album’s first singles, “Shameless” was released earlier this summer.

Minus the Bear: Acoustics II

What’s the best way to pay homage to a celebrated album? Release a sequel of course! And that’s exactly what Minus the Bear has done with the released of “Acoustics II” which is the proclaimed sequel to the 2008 EP “Acoustics”. The original release on Tigre Blanco Records contained acoustic versions of seven previously released tracks, including the well-known “Guns and Ammo”. The band is currently on tour with upcoming stops in along the west coast.
