New Release Tuesday: Sept. 3rd

Neko Case The Worse Things GetWelcome to New Releases Tuesday on WERS. Every Tuesday we take a look around the music scene and bring you updates on, you guessed it, the new albums coming out this week.

Neko Case, The Worse Things Get, The harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight The More I Love You

This is the sixth album from Neko Case and while her previous album, Middle Cyclone, was about the beauty of nature and animals The Worse Things Get… deals with much more personal issues. The albums comes from an extremely long mourning period for Case, but it allowed her to deal with inner issues such as childhood, love, and loss. Case said that the experience “took me where I needed to go.”

Okkervil River, The Silver Gymnasium

The Silver Gymnasium is the seventh studio album from Okkervil River. This album centers around frontman Will Sheff’s hometown of Meriden, New Hampshire, from the year 1986. The nostalgic album comes paired with an animated map of Sheff’s magical hometown. The childhood fantasies, dreams, and hazy memories from the inner workings of Will Sheff’s mind come together to create a superb album.

Volcano Choir, Reprave

This is the sophomore release for Volcano Choir, where the Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon takes the spotlight. This is the follow up to the band’s 2009 debut album, Unmap. As opposed to many Bon Iver songs, Justin Vernon’s signature falsetto is missing from Reprave and is instead replaced with a lower baritone that fits perfectly with volcano Choir’s arrangements.
