“Who listens to guitar music anymore? That’s so circa 2003,” says a preteen boy while he and his friends sit around a table preparing to play dungeons and dragons. This Must Be the Only Fantasy is the newest collaboration film between Rodarte and photographer/director Todd Cole. Cole is primarily a fashion photographer who also dabbles in film. He has directed music videos for artists including Kurt Vile, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and No Age.
The film stars Elijah Wood, young actress Sidney Williams and model Guinevere Van Seenus in addition to a unicorn, a cloaked horse-rider, and original music from Beach House.
This isn’t the first time Beach House was a part of a lengthy music video. Back in February, the band released Forever Still, their own short film, which was show in various desert locations. The film shows the band performing “Wild”, “The Hours”, “Wishes” and “Irene” off their most recent album, Bloom.
Beach House’s ethereal-pop, yet drone-y score is the perfect musical accompaniment to the young girl’s mythical journey through her neighborhood. The Must Be the Only Fantasy’s score is strictly instrumental until the 10:47 mark when front woman Victoria Legrand’s distinct vocals appear. Watch the music video below:
