Throwback Thrusday: Robert Plant

Robert PlantThis week for Throwback Thursday, WERS is playing a set of Robert Plant in honor of his upcoming show tonight at the Bank of America Pavilion with Phosphorescent.

Robert Plant was born in West Bronmwich, England in August of 1948 and showed an interest in rock and roll from a very early age. Plant said that, “I left home at 16…and I started my real education musically, moving from group to group.” Robert Plant sang in a couple of different band in the early years of his career like The Crawling King Snakes and Band of Joy where he met legendary drummer John Bonham. The two eventually met up with guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones and thus Led Zeppelin was born. Zeppelin’s self titled debut album was released in 1969 and included now legendary rock songs like “Good Times Bad Times”, “Dazed and Confused”, and “Communication Breakdown.” Robert Plant went on to become one of the most influential frontmen in rock and roll history. Not only were his lyrics mystical and meaningful, his vocal range was immense, and his on stage presence was unlike any other musician at the time. Robert Plant embarked on a solo career after Led Zeppelin broke up in 1980 due to the unfortunate death of drummer John Bonham. Plant released nine solo albums, nine with Zeppelin, and has worked on collaborative albums with the likes of Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and Alison Krauss.

Celebrate Robert Plant with us today at 5pm on 88.9 WERS!
