- About WERS
At 4:15 PM each Tuesday, WERS brings you our On the Verge segment which highlights an artist we think is up-and-coming.
This week’s artist On The Verge is Americana singer-songwriter Nora Jane Struthers. Struthers is featured today along with her band The Party Line while working off her second album Carnival, which was released this April. The album currently sits pretty at #15 on the Americana album charts.
From the title of the album, it’s apparent that the idea of carnivals was a big influence on Struthers. As she says on her website, “When you go to a carnival, you go into a sideshow tent, and on every stage you find a different person with a different story. That’s why I’m trying to do with this album – craft vignettes, and in some cases more developed narratives, about imaginary people’s lives.” She goes on to say, “The album has a narrative, from girlhood to death.” Struthers helped fulfill her objective with the help of very capable hands. Brent Truitt, who has worked with Dolly Parton, Alison Krauss, and Dixie Chicks, produced the album in his Nashville studio.
Struthers first album, I Heard the Bluebirds Sing, came out in 2008 under the name of Dirt Road Sweetheart as a duet album with her father. This was followed by her self-titled solo debut in 2011.
Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line are playing shows all throughout the summer and all the way into winter. They’ll be back in town for a show at Club Passim in Cambridge on October 24th.
