Greetings, concertgoers! The season is about to turn—are you fully equipped with perfect beach body and SPF nothing? You’re right, we should just go to concerts instead, where paleness doesn’t matter and sweat is somehow less gross. Three cheers for subterranean, trollish music lovers! And hot ones, if that’s what you’re into. Here’s what’s going on this week:
Tomorrow, June 20th - The Joy Formidable @ House of Blues
The three-piece Welsh group is currently touring in support of their sophomore studio release Wolf’s Law, composed largely on the road during their year-long tour for their debut, The Big Roar, and finished up in Maine. The Joy Formidable brings the cheer and the melodies at their live shows, but listen carefully—they have some of the best lyrics going on the new album, particularly in the title track and “A Minute’s Silence.”
Friday, June 21st - Kopecky Family Band and Blondfire @ Brighton Music Hall
A double bill that you can bring your mom to! Kopecky and Blondfire are both acts that blend equal parts mainstream sound and alternative so that you’ll be hearing about them from both the coolest and least cool guy in your office pretty soon. Kopecky Family was recently hailed as the new Fleetwood Mac by The New York Times, and the parallels are undeniable—debut album Kids Raising Kids is interesting and accessible, and Blondfire’s has the indie-pop feel to match with their Where the Kids Are EP.
Friday, June 21st - Fleetwood Mac @ Comcast Center
After playing a show at TD Garden in the wake of the Boston bombings, Fleetwood is back for more to celebrate their new EP. This one is a no-brainer—the whole band still brings it like the old days, Stevie’s still a hottie, Lindsey shreds like a twenty-year-old, and the new material is a fabulous addition to an already overwhelming library.
Take action and heart, this summer, friends—sit in your room with a stack of new CDs, form your opinions, and leave outside to the outside people. See you next week!
