Throwback Thursday: Bruce Springsteen

bruce-springsteen-2This week for Throwback Thursday, WERS is celebrating the Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen in honor of the 29th anniversary of the release of his album Born in the USA. 

Bruce Springsteen was born in 1949 in Long Branch, New Jersey and is still performing and touring today at the age of 63. Springsteen has been interested in music ever since the age of seven when saw Elvis Presley perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. Springsteen played around with a couple of different bands until he released his first album, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J., in 1973. Five albums later, Springsteen came out with Born in the USA which turned out to be one of the most successful albums of his career. Springsteen wrote lyrics for this album that focused on ordinary people just searching for the American Dream. This is the album that helped extend Bruce Springsteen’s popularity to a mainstream audience.

Bruce Springsteen seventh album has a total of seven Top 10 singles that ties Born in the USA with Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814. Springsteen has sold more that 120 million records world wide and has won twenty Grammies, two Golden Globes, and an Academy Award.
