Good morning, music lovers! Now that the heat wave has subsided, we can focus less on the trying not to melt thing and more on the seeing shows that are great thing. Remember that? To help your memory along, a bevy of terrific musicians are hitting Boston this week, so let’s proceed!
Tonight, June 5th – Lissie @ Brighton Music Hall
With each passing day, it becomes more difficult to discern whether Lissie being a real-life goddess is opinion or fact. Her new single “Shameless” is just beginning to make its rounds in the indie community and explodes with energy and lady power, so there’s no doubt she’ll nearly blow minds one and all at Brighton Music Hall tonight. If you’re hankering for a little Lissie before the show starts, tune into WERS at 3:15pm this afternoon for an exclusive live set!
Tomorrow, June 6th - Best Coast @ The Royale
Their band name is a bold claim, but LA duo Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno have catchy surf hooks that make up for it. Ascending to fame last year with their album The Only Place, the group has been steadily touring with heavy endorsements from American Apparel. They’re a fun act to see live and the perfect antidote.
Friday, June 7th - Devendra Banhart @ the Wilbur
He’s everyone’s hippie dream boyfriend, but he’s too aloof to care. One of the main purveyors of a tiny corner of music known as New Weird America (also inhabited by pals Vetiver and Joanna Newsom), Banhart’s dreamy psych-folk sound is back and better than ever with the overlooked Mala album. It’s his best effort lyrically, and the sound stays light and exciting—call it bias, but it’s fair to say the 32-year-old will be melting some hearts to kick off the weekend.
There you have it, concert-goers—it’s a fabulous week for indie music in the hub, and I not-so-secretly want to marry Devendra Banhart. Will we make it work? Check in for your concert watch next Wednesday to find out!
