Bulger’s defense, led by his attorney J.W. Carney, requested that the court open its doors to the public for jury selection which will begin Tuesday.
Typically this process is only broadcast on television.
Judge Denise Casper addressed many requests related to the trial proceedings on Monday, ruling Bulger’s entire FBI informant file can be presented in the trial. Bulger’s position as an informant has proved to be a unique and interesting detail in his case, after many of the alleged victims’ families sued the federal government for wrongful death. Lawyers for these families say seeing Bulger on trial is a victory in itself.
Casper also ruled that while victim’s relatives can testify for the prosecution, they cannot comment on how the deaths affected them personally. Bulger expected to take the stand in his own defense.
