On the Verge: Villagers

At 4:15 PM each Tuesday, WERS brings you our On The Verge segment which highlights an artist we think is up-and-coming.

This weeks’ artist On The Verge is Villagers! They made their way to the WERS studios all the way from Dublin, Ireland.   Villagers have had an incredible amount of success in their home country.  Their 2010 debut album, Becoming a Jackal, reached the top of the Irish charts, as well as the top of the UK Indie chart.

Villagers second album, {Awayland}, has generated just as much success across the shore as their first album. {Awayland} has also reached #1 on the Irish charts, and #2 on the UK Indie charts. Connor O’Brien fronts the indie folk band. He’s quoted on their website saying, “All I want to do is to stretch my imagination as far as it can go,” which he’s certainly achieved on {Awayland}.  Villagers have also been able to learn a lot from the really incredible acts they’ve toured with, including Tracy Chapman and Bell X1.

After the great success they’ve had overseas, make sure to keep your eyes on this weeks’ artist On The Verge, Villagers.  They’ll be back in Boston on June 11th for a show at the Brighton Music Hall.
