At 4:15 PM each Tuesday, WERS brings you our On The Verge segment which highlights an artist we think is up-and-coming.
This weeks’ artist On The Verge is folk singer-songwriter Marie Miller, who hails from the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. Miller comes from a large and musical family; she’s the third of ten children. As she grew up, Miller toured festivals and churches with their family band. This has led to faith being a large influence on her music, as well as her family. It’s paid off for Miller, who spent four months on the Christian charts with her first single, “Cold.” The 23 year old is currently working on her first full album, with a lot of excitement riding behind it.
This will be Miller’s first release since her self-titled EP from 2005, which led to Curb Records signing a deal with the folk singer. Miller released a single earlier this year, “You’re Not Alone,” which is the first snippet of her upcoming album. The song was “written as a battle cry for a friend who was going through a really tough time, and… I wanted to fight for him and somehow take away his loneliness.”
Miller’s music can certainly be used as a source of relief. Keep your eyes on this artist On The Verge, and listen in at 4:15 PM today to hear her perform in the WERS studio!
