New Releases Tuesday

best-bets-albums-vampire-weekend-650-430Welcome to New Releases Tuesday on WERS. Every Tuesday we’ll take a look around the music scene and bring you updates on, you guessed it, the new albums coming out this week.

This is the debut album for the New York pop duo consisting of singer Lizzy Plapinger and producer Max Hershenow. The duo released an EP, Candy Bar Creep Show, in September of 2012 and now all of those tracks are included on Secondhand Rapture. The American duo has been compared to the likes of Florence and the Machine, Lana Del Rey, and Poliça.

Finally we are graced with the third studio album release from the New York City rock quartet, Vampire Weekend. It has been three years since the release of Contra and personally, I am extremely excited for the new material from the band. Modern Vampires of the City consists of fourteen new tracks, three of which (“Diane Young”, “Step”, “Ya Hey”) have been released with music videos on Youtube. The band was also the musical guest on last weeks episode of Saturday Night Live where they performed “Diane Young” and a never before heard song “Unbelievers.” So far, it has been nothing but great reviews for Vampires of the Modern City even having Rolling Stone call it a “precise craft and soul that speaks to the heart of city life.”
