President Obama denounced the recent Internal Revenue Services’ (IRS) targeting of Tea Party and Conservative non-profit groups.
This is the first time the President has spoken publicly about the allegations of the IRS focusing intensely on the actions of conservative groups nationwide. He said the actions of the IRS should be “nothing but neutral.”
Many Republican lawmakers called for the firing of IRS acting commissioner Steven Miller, but the President has not responded to these calls for action.
Reports on Monday indicated the reach of the scrutiny even extended beyond “common” key words and phrases associated with conservative non-profits and tea party groups.
The IRS focus on these groups was revealed through internal memos and documents that were released last week when The Wall Street Journal reviewed and released the details of the focus.
