The RIAA has announce that Bright Eyes’ 2005 I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning has gone gold. Selling 500,000 units, the classic album is the first gold album for Saddle Creek Records. Robb Nansel of Saddle Creek explained their humble thoughts in a statement on their site, much of it trying to find the overall meaning of it all.
“It reminds us that music can make a huge impact on people, on communities, on cities, and on the world at large. Conor Oberst, and the Bright Eyes moniker, was always something special to me. I grew up in Omaha and watched Conor play his first show at Kilgore’s (R.I.P.) coffee house at the age of 13. Those moments, those friendships, and those experiences ultimately drove us to create Saddle Creek and devote the next twenty years of our lives to the idea that this music mattered,” Nansel said.
Nansel then went to talk of the opportunities that were opened with ‘It’s Wide Awake, It’s Morning’ with the new relationships, the ability to release more records, and the opening of their venue, Slowdown, in an attempt to develop North Downtown Omaha.
Conor Oberst is planning on touring solo with The Mystic Valley Band, and with Desaparecidos this fall.
