Artist of the Week: Laura Marling

Laura Marling Once I Was An EagleWERS is featuring Laura Marling as our Artist of the Week!

The 23 year old singer-songwriter came out of the London folk scene around the same time as some bands you may have heard of such as Noah and the Whale and some boy band called Mumford and Sons, even doing a stint for a time in the former.  She released her first solo album at the ripe old age of 18, 2008′s Alas, I Cannot Swim.  This lead to a rising prominence in her native England with several television appearances and she widely toured, though in one instance she was denied entry to her own show for being underage and instead performed on the street.

Two excellent, award-winning albums later (2010′s I Speak Because I Can and 2011′s A Creature I Do Not Know), Marling is resurfacing this year with her fourth album, Once I Was An Eagle.  Despite her huge success to this point, many early reviews are already claiming this to be her best album.  Though you’ll have to wait until May 28th to get your hands on a copy here in the states, you can already hear her first single off of it on WERS.
