The Flaming Lips New Music Video

The-Flaming-Lips-Ashes-In-The-Air-608x440A couple of days ago The Flaming Lips released a new music video for the song “Ashes in the Air” featuring Bon Iver. This song was off of the bands 2012 album, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. This was a collaboration album where The Flaming Lips made songs with the likes of Ke$ha, Biz Markie, Tame Impala, and Erykah Badu. The Flaming Lips have never been known for being a “normal” band and this claim is reinforced by the NSFW music video for “Ashes in the Air.”

The video starts off with a spaceman with a tinfoil suit and an eyeball for a head opening a small spacecraft and picking up a baby. This baby is singing and has the face of a man projected on it making the image that more unsettling. The two walk through a desolate area with random nude people covered in blood and glitter as multicolored flashing light surround them.

The Flaming Lips also made a recent appearance on Letterman and performed the first single “Look…The Sun Is Rising” off of their upcoming album The Terror. Lead Singer, Wayne Coyne was standing on some odd array of tubes and metal spheres as he held a baby doll throughout the whole song. The song was impressive with pounding drums, endless synth, and Coyne singing vocals covered with an array of effects. You never know what to expect from The Flaming Lips and you can listen to the rest of The Terror when it is released on April 16th.
