You probably know M83 as the French duo who finally crashed the American charts last year with their sixth album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. It reached number fifteen on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts, and the hit single “Midnight City” could be heard everywhere all the time.
What you may not know is that M83’s Anthony Gonzalez has also begun his career in the film industry. Gonzalez, along with composer Joseph Trapanese, have scored the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster film Oblivion. The movie stars Tom Cruise as one of the last people to visit Earth after it was destroyed by an alien invasion many years before. Oblivion will be out in theaters in the US on April 19th.
The film contains a score completely composed by Gonzalez and Traparnese. Along with the score, Oblivion will also contain a brand new M83 song, also called “Oblivion.” The song features Susana Sundfør, a Norwegian singer-songwriter.
The soundtrack for the album will be out on April 9th, a couple weeks before the movie drops. It will be released by Backlot Music, and features fifteen tracks from the score of the movie, as well as the M83 single “Oblivion.” The entire album is now available for streaming on Pitchfork.
