At 4:15 PM each Tuesday, WERS brings you our On The Verge segment which highlights an artist we think is up-and-coming. This week’s artist On The Verge is the Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Xavier Rudd. Rudd was born and raised in Torquay, Victoria and originally performed with the band Xavier and the Hum before choosing to become a solo artist. Rudd plays alone in a one-man-band style. He sings while surrounding himself with the instruments he plays including but not limited to: bass, slide, electric and acoustic guitar, tongue drum, didgeridoo, ankle bells, stomp box and slide banjo.
Rudd is also a social activist and themes such as human rights, spirituality and environmentalism resonate in his songs. He is also an active vegetarian and in 2007 was named, “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity” by the animal rights organization, PETA.
He gained notoriety from performing at festivals such as Rock Werchter, Bonnaroo, Lowlands, High Sierra, Summer Sonic, and the Wakarusa among others. In addition to his festival performances Rudd has toured alongside acts such as Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Jack Johnson, G. Love & Special Sauce, Jack Johnson, Good Old War and Ben Harper and his seventh and latest album, Spirit Bird, dropped in June.
Tune in this Tuesday at 4:15 pm to hear an exclusive in-studio performance and interview from Xavier Rudd only on 88.9 WERS.
