Phoenix Kicks Off Tour

Phoenix LiveAfter a two year break, Phoenix finally kicked off their Bankrupt! tour with a string of west coast shows. Opening the tour at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, the band played the entirety of both their new album, Bankrupt!, and 2009’s Grammy-winning, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. This segment of the tour acts as a warm-up for some of the bigger sets they’re going to play later this year. Not only will they be headlining Coachella, Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza, and the legendary John Peel Tent at Glastonbury, but they’ll also be playing a handful of smaller dates (East coast dates include a show at the Apollo, Sweetlife Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival).

Their newest album, Bankrupt!, is set to be released on April 22nd. Despite stating the album will be a more experimental venture, a departure from their pop sound, lead single “Entertainment” is filled with catchy hooks and and a festival ready chorus. The album itself was recorded in both New York City and France, including a stint in the late Adam Yauch’s Oscilloscope Laboratories. Producing the album will be Philippe Zdar, best known for producing Phoenix’s last album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, mixing Beastie Boy’s last album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, and his own band Cassius. Phoenix have also announced a deluxe version of Bankrupt! that features over seventy demos. Granted, most of the demos barely make it to the half-minute mark, but it certainly will be interesting for anyone who was curious about the songwriting process.
