Welcome to New Releases Tuesday on WERS. Every Tuesday we’ll take a look around the music scene and bring you updates on, you guessed it, the new albums coming out this week.
PHOSPHORESCENT, MUCHACHO
Muchacho is the sixth studio album from Phosphorescent, the working moniker for singer-songwriter Matthew Houck. Hailing from Alabama, Houck began recording and performing under the name in 2001 and is currently based out of Brooklyn, NY. Before beginning Phosphorescent, Houck traveled the world and released some demos under the name Fillup Shack.
LOW, THE INVISIBLE WAY
American indie rockers Low have released their tenth studio album, The Invisible Way this week. Produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, the album was recorded in the Wilco studios in Chicago. The Minnesota natives originally formed in 1993 and is comprised of Alan Sparhawk, Mimi Parker and Steve Garrington. Low has been described as minimalist and slowcore with Parker and Sparhawk’s striking and intertwining vocal harmonies.
BILLY BRAGG, TOOTH & NAIL
English alternative rock musician and activist Billy Bragg combines folk and punk rock together with his politic heavy lyricism. Having been on the music scene for more than thirty years, Bragg has just released his fifteenth studio album, Tooth & Nail. The album was announced this past January and is his first release in five years. Featured on Tooth & Nail are eleven original songs, one written by Bush Theatre, and one Woody Guthrie cover.
