Mumford and Sons has had one of the most successful years with the release of their second studio album Babel that rushed to the top of the charts internationally. Babel was the fastest selling album in the UK and US selling 159,000 and 600,000 copies respectively.
The band released a new music video for the the third single off of Babel, “Whispers in the Dark.” The video is simple enough showing the all of the band members preparing for a concert, but you will be seeing quadruple because the screen is split into four sections. Jim Canty directed the video and chose to split the screen four ways to show each of the band members journeys to making it to a performance.
The beginning of the video makes little sense to the viewer when you see Marcus Mumford, Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane in odd locations like on a boat, motorcycle, and in a parking garage. The viewer doesn’t understand what is going on until the last minute or so when all of the Mumford members arrive in a green room at a venue. The four way split screen ends and the band members welcome each other with a hug in this behind the scenes music video. The video ends with the curtain raising revealing a huge crowd as Mumford and Sons start a concert.
