There could not have been a more perfect kick off the live music festivities on All A Cappella. This all-male professional a cappella group residing in Melrose, Mass. was the perfect match for our first performance for live music week. They came into the studio prepared with plenty of songs in their arsenal and smiles that lit up the room. The camaraderie was prominent throughout their entire set.
Kicking off their set was Blue of a Kind’s rendition of “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye”. The group dynamic came to shine during their soulful performance. Together they’re voices sang along to the memorable tune, making it even easier to get stuck in your head.
The second song they performed was “Blue Bayou”, a staple in their repertoire. Their tight harmonies were of a hybrid between classic swing tunes and soulful R&B. The camaraderie continued as the two soloists put their arms around each other while executing complimenting harmonies.
Finally, the group closed their Live Music Week set with their rendition of “Tears Come Rolling Down”. This jazzy number brought out all of the energy that was prevalent in the background vocals singing “Oh yeah! Oh yeah” The background provided a perfect support to the soulful soloists riffs. The song even allowed them to serenade the listeners adieu with the final lyrics “Bye Baby, Bye Bye Bye”.
Even though the group has been around since 2005, Blue of a Kind has put together a repertoire that can make people of all ages want to sing along. I only expect great things from the group and I am positive that more fantastic opportunities will come their way.
