The entirety of the two-tiered outdoor section at Mohawk in Austin was jam packed on Thursday, March 14th.The rustic venue boasts a 21X16 outdoor stage as well as a smaller indoor stage. Fans crowded together on the wooden floor of the outdoor stage and leaned over the railings of the roof deck to see the New York-based trio, Skaters.
The band, which consists of Michael Ian Cummings (MIC) on vocals, Noah Rubin (NoNo B) on drums, and guitarist Joshua Hubbard (J. Hub), were performing as part of the Vans/Paradigm party along with Wake Owl, Pacific Air, Solid Gold, Cold War Kids, and Local Natives. The music they describe as “humblecore” permeated the audience. Cummings’ smooth vocals complimented Rubin’s heavy drumming to form a gorgeous sound unlike anything I had ever heard.
Serenata de Amor, a musical theater project spearheaded by visual media arts associate professor Claire Andrade-Watkins, was brought to Emerson this past year.
