- About WERS
I’ll probably think of my last day at SXSW as the “bucket list” day. That is to say that I crossed a whole lot of names off of the mental list of artists that I’d love to see but never had. Just on Friday alone I saw Emmylou Harris, Divine Fits (who I interviewed on WERS but hadn’t seen live), Vampire Weekend, The Flaming Lips, and Green Day, all for the first time.
They all put on amazing shows, and the highlights would last for a few pages. Perhaps the best show was Green Day. I will admit that I’ve lapsed somewhat as a fan with their last few albums, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this show. Imagine my surprise that they only player a handful of songs from recent years (out of a 25 song set). All of this is to say that they essentially played the soundtrack to my middle/high school years and it was… yeah, just an amazing experience.
With a lot of other no less awesome acts that I had seen before (Dawes, Charles Bradley, Iron & Wine, Jim James), it was without a doubt probably the best day I’ve ever had in my live music career.
