For this week’s Throwback Thursday we are playing a set from the Kinks to honor the 48th anniversary of their third single in a row to become a Top Ten Hot 100 hit and Top 3 UK hit, “Tired of Waiting For You”.
The Kinks were at the forefront of the British Beat movement and have had a massive influence on Garage Rock, Punk, and fellow British artists like the Who, blur, and Oasis. “Tired of Waiting” was the lead single of the Kinks’ second studio album Kinda Kinks which, like their first album Kinks, peaked at #3 on the UK album charts in 1965. The song showcased frontman Ray Davies’ world-weary vocal style and then developing witty and social conscious approach to songwriting. Over the next two years the Kinks continued to spawn a string of Top 10 UK hits and US Hot 100 entries, including “Sunny Afternoon”, “Waterloo Sunset” and, my personal favorite, “A Well Respected Man.”
Celebrate years of the Kinks with us today at 5PM at WERS!
