Taylor Swift Is Taking Over

Taylor Swift has swept America off their feet with her spunky lyrics, age-appropriate style, and seemingly good humor. Like all profitable pop stars, this twenty-three year old young woman has four albums to her name, a perfume, seven Grammy Awards, and the notorious track record of boyfriends. If you type in Google, “Taylor Swift and…” there will be a score of boys names linked. In the span of four albums, Taylor has dated more than ten of music film, and American-Royalty men: John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, Connor Kennedy, and Harry Styles. The people’s opinion on this young starlet used to be “The Next Joni Mitchell” now to “America’s Serial Dater.” Somehow with the recent backlash from her obnoxiousness at the Grammys, Swift continues to sell out stadiums for summer concerts, and snag a new boyfriend before one of her singles drops on the Billboard Top 30.

What makes Taylor Swift so forgiving? In my opinion, her music, though mostly campy and abhorrent, speaks to a large and marketable audience: teenage girls. Girls cannot help but live vicariously through Swift’s songs, like “All Too Well”, “White Horse” and “Love Story.” Swift may be slowly becoming the harlot of country/pop music, but her songs are so relatable and honest that the naysayers will nine times out of ten forgive her. Taylor Swift’s newest album, Red, is a triumph in her career, and what we can expect from her in the years to come are more Grammys and many more boyfriends to influence her albums.
