Artist of the Week: Air Traffic Controller

Air Traffic Controller 2013This week WERS is featuring one of our favorite Boston bands, Air Traffic Controller, as our Artist of the Week!

There is perhaps no more aptly-titled band than Air Traffic Controller – lead vocalist and guitar player Dave Munro was himself an air traffic controller in the US Navy.  During his deployment Munro recorded some demos, which he sent back home and when he returned he found an already existent fan base.  Air Traffic Controller (the band) was formed.  One of those tapes made it’s way into producer Bleu’s hands and the band has worked with him ever since.  They followed up the success of their debut album The One with last year’s excellent Nordo.  Like its predecessor, it found it’s way onto many year-end lists and earned several accolades.  In the wake of Nordo, the arrow is surely pointing up for these locals.

They just released a new lyric video for the song “You Know Me,” off of Nordo.  Many WERS listeners are likely already familiar with the band – you voted them #5 in our Top 89 Albums of 2012 Countdown.  For anyone looking to get better aquainted, they’ll be playing a string of shows in town in late Spring.  Before that, however, they’ll be shoving off to South By Southwest in Austin this week.  And, hey, so will we!  Keep a look out for updates from both of us!
