25th Anniversary of R.E.M.’s Green

REM GreenR.E.M. announced through their website this past Tuesday that they’ll be re-releasing their 1988 album, Green, as a deluxe edition on May 14th. Released twenty five years ago on Warner Bros. Records, the album was the bands major label breakthrough featuring the hits “Orange Crush,” “Stand,” “Pop Song 89,” and “Get Up.” The original album has been certified as double platinum by the RIAA.

The remastered deluxe edition will include the original eleven tracks, as well as a second live disc from the second to last show of their 1989 world tour in Greensboro, North Carolina. Along with the two disc deluxe edition, a remastered Green will be available on 180 gram vinyl. Both will be available for purchase on May 14th from Rhino.

R.E.M. has even more in store before the release of the deluxe edition. For Record Store Day on April 10th the band plans to release Live in Greensboro EP. The EP will feature five bonus songs that aren’t available on disc two of the Green deluxe edition. Live in Greensboro is for dedicated fans; only 2,500 copies will be available on Record Store Day.
