This week’s artist On The Verge is the folk band, Field Report. The singer-songwriter Christopher Porterfield serves as front man for the band and its name is actually an anagram of his last name. Prior to Field Report Porterfield was the leader of the band DeYarmond Edison with Justin Vernon. Porterfield went on to form Field Report post-DeYarmond Edison’s break up and Vernon went on to form Bon Iver.
In addition to Porterfield, Field Report consists of Shane Leonard on banjo, fiddle and drums, Nick Berg on keys, Ben Lester on pedal steel, Travis Whitty on bass, Damian Strigens on drums and Jeff Mitchell on baritone guitar. All members except for Lester and Strigens perform vocals as well.
Field Report’s debut self-titled album was released in 2012 and the band has opened at shows for artists such as Aimee Mann, The Counting Crows, and Emmylou Harris. They are currently touring through the end of March and will be performing at The Sinclair in Cambridge on March 25th.
Tune in this Tuesday at 4:15 pm to hear an exclusive in-studio performance and interview from Field Report, only here on 88.9 WERS.
