Record Store Day, the annual celebration of all things music and vinyl related (excluding the pants), returns on April 20th and there will be TONS of new records to pick up. Warner Bros. Records has recently announced their 2013 Record Store Day plans and plenty of familiar, WERS artists are featured. Some of the highlights include The Black Keys covering The Stooges’ “No Fun”, a rerelease of Flaming Lips’ Zaireeka, a new Iron & Wine single, and a collection of remixes of Tegan and Sara’s new single “Closer”.
If that doesn’t get you excited, other records set to be released include two compilations of performances from the Newport Folk Festival, one from 1965 and another from 1963 that focuses on the blues, and a newly remastered release of Country Joe & The Fish’s debut album, I Feel Like I’m Fixin’ to Die.
And if THAT doesn’t get you excited, fans of Jack White will be happy to know that not only will he be this year’s Record Store Day ambassador, but that The White Stripes’ legendary album, Elephant, will be reissued on limited split-color black and red and white vinyl.
There is something for everyone at Record Store Day, so make your way down to one of your favorite record shops and pick up something! All of the Newbury Comics in the Boston area are participating as well as other great, smaller stores like Weirdo Records in Cambridge. A full list of all official, upcoming Record Store Day releases will be announced later this month.
