New Releases Tuesday

Thom YorkeWelcome to New Releases Tuesday on WERS. Every Tuesday we’ll take a look around the music scene and bring you updates on, you guessed it, the new albums coming out this week.

JOHNNY MARR, THE MESSENGER

Johnny Marr, best known as the guitarist of The Smiths, has released his first entirely solo album, The Messenger. The English singer-songwriter who has also been a member of The Cribs, Electronic, The The, and Modest Mouse, produced the record himself. The Messenger features the single, “Upstarts” which can be heard on WERS.

ATOMS FOR PEACE, AMOK

Super group,  Atoms For Peace released their debut record, Amok, which only took them three days to record. Atoms For Peace is comprised of Thom Yorke of Radiohead, Brazilian instrumentalist Mauro Refosco, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joey Waronker of R.E.M. and Beck, and Radiohead Producer Nigel Godrich.  They formed in 2009 to perform the entirety of York’s The Eraser and toured together for two weeks in April 2010 under the name “??????” before choosing the name Atoms For Peace.

THE MAVERICKS, IN TIME

Miami-based country-rock band The Mavericks have released, In Time, their first album in nearly ten years. The band recorded six albums between 1991 and 2003 but broke up after their 2003 self-titled album. In 2011 the band reunited for a tour and released an EP Suited Up and Ready in May of 2012.
